About Our Town

Greenfield Township is found in the southwestern corner of Blair County, where it borders parts of Bedford and Cambria Counties.  The township has a population of 4,173 according to the 2010 census and has 25.47 square miles of land.  The first European settlers arrived in the area around 1770.

There are many opportunities for outdoor recreation since several tributaries flow through the township.  These include tributaries to the watersheds of Bob’s Creek, South Popular Run, and Beaverdam Creek.  Additionally, the Allegheny Mountains are visible throughout the township.  Nearby Blue Knob State Park offers over 6,000 acres of woods for hiking, camping, and skiing.  One of Blue Knob’s peaks, Schaefer Head, is the highest point in Blair County.  Hunters come to the area to hunt on Greenfield Township’s State Game Lands and fishermen are frequent visitors to the nearby creeks and streams.

The township includes the neighborhood of Claysburg, which exemplifies its motto, “A Small Town in a Big Way”.  The community’s groups host many arts and cultural events, such as plays and musicals.  They, also, maintain the Claysburg Community Park, where local churches hold the annual “Community Days”.
